Our Policies

First and foremost, we’re excited that you’ve decided to stay at Inn the Clouds Hostel & Inn! Our guests are like family to us and—as avid travelers ourselves—we deeply appreciate the importance of having a clean, safe, and welcoming place to stay. To that end, we’ve crafted the following guidelines to help make your stay as clear and stress-free as possible.

General Information About Your Stay

Check in is from 3PM until 9PM. If you’re arriving early, we will gladly hold your bags for you until your room is ready and you are welcome to hang out in the common areas. If you think you will arrive after 9pm, let us know ahead of time so we can send our “self-check-in” instructions. Early check-ins are permitted on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability. It’s best to call us first to see if we’re able to accommodate your needs.

Check out is 10AM. We do not allow late check-outs. If you’d like to spend the rest of the day at the hostel, day passes (4 hrs from the time of purchase) are available for only fifteen dollars ($15).

We don’t have a minimum required stay except during the month of August, when a minimum five (5) night reservation is required. This only applies to the week before the LT100 MTB and the week before the LT100 RUN.

We do not offer long-term rentals.

Minors are not permitted in dormitories unless accompanied by an adult.

For sanitary purposes, we don’t allow sleeping bags or personal blankets on any of our furniture. We’ll be happy to get you an extra blanket if you’re cold, just ask.

Fresh towels are included in your stay.

No sleeping on sofas, chairs, or floors in common areas. No exceptions.

Complimentary ear plugs are provided in all dorm rooms.

No “hot-racking”. One person per bunk, y’all. If you’re feeling frisky, consider upgrading to a private room.

Our building is a smoke- and vape-free environment. There is a designated outdoor smoking area on the property—we’ll point it out during your exciting and informative hostel tour.

Lost locker or room keys will incur a five dollar ($5) replacement fee.

Safety and Respect

We genuinely want you and our other guests to have and enjoyable, fun, and comfortable stay. Please be respectful of other guests, our neighbors, and the larger Leadville community:

Be nice. If you can’t be nice, you can’t stay here. Quiet hours are from 10PM—7AM, inside and out.

Sexual misconduct, indecency, harassment, hostility, provocation, homophobia, transphobia, racism, bigotry, or any other form of intolerant or belligerent behavior will not be tolerated. Guests violating this policy will be asked to leave immediately and will not be allowed to return in the future.

Non-registered guests are not allowed in dormitory or private rooms. You’re welcome to have a friend join you in one of our common areas for coffee or lunch. If you’d like for them to stay longer, they’ll need to purchase a day pass.

Personal belongings and valuables should be secured at all times. Inn the Clouds is not responsible for lost or stolen items, including packages shipped to our address.

Theft will be swiftly reported to local authorities. In addition to leaving in handcuffs, guests caught stealing will not be permitted to stay with us in the future.

Intoxication on our property is not permitted.

Illicit drugs are not permitted at Inn the Clouds. If you are found possessing or using illegal drugs on our property, you will be instructed to leave immediately and you will not receive a refund. No exceptions will be made to this policy.

Closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) are in use in some of our common areas. These are all readily visible and are in place for the protection of our staff and guests.

If you have issues with another guest or staff member, please immediately report it to hostel management.


Payment is due at the time of booking. We don’t accept partial payments and unfortunately we can’t hold a spot for you without full payment.

Cancellations and Late Arrivals

We understand that the unexpected sometimes happens. But as a small family-owned inn, last-minute cancellations and no-shows really impact us. Please let us know as soon as possible if you’ll be arriving late or if you won’t make it. If we haven’t seen you by 7PM, we’ll send self check-in instructions via text message—remember to check your phone if you arrive late and the door is locked.

If your plans change and you’ll be a day or more late or will need to leave early, we’re happy to accommodate, but please let us know in advance. We won’t be able to offer a refund for the unused days, but we’ll make sure your space is ready when you get here or we’ll make it available for another traveler after you depart.

Refunds will be issued within three (3) days for reservations cancelled five (5) or more calendar days before check-in time (3PM MST) on your arrival date. A three percent (3%) fee will be assessed to cover credit card transaction fees on all refunds. Reservations cancelled within five (5) days of arrival and no-shows are non-refundable. Bookings cannot be transferred to another party or rolled forward to another date.

Finally, inquiries for specific dates made through the stayinntheclouds.com booking system without valid credit card information will be automatically canceled if we don’t receive payment-in-full within five (5) days.

Group Bookings

A fifty percent (50%) deposit is required at the time of reservation for groups booking the entire property. The remaining balance is due at check-in. We don’t offer net payment terms or other financing.

Unless your contract states otherwise, refunds will be issued within three (3) days for reservations cancelled thirty (30) or more calendar days before check-in time (3PM MST) on your arrival date. If the deposit was paid via credit or debit card, a three percent (3%) fee will be assessed to cover transaction fees. Reservations cancelled within thirty (30) days of arrival and no-shows are non-refundable. Bookings cannot be transferred to another group or rolled forward to another date.


We love pets! Your fur babies are welcome at the hostel, with some important stipulations:

There‘s an additional fee of ten dollars ($10) per night, per pet. You’re welcome to pay this fee at time of arrival using cash or credit card, however, we require a valid credit card to be on file for any guest visiting with their pet.

Out of respect for other guests, your pet is not permitted in the dorms at any time. If you’re staying with your animal, you must book private accommodation.

Pets are not allowed on any of our furniture. This includes beds, sofas, chairs, tables, bookcases, dressers, TV stands—pretty much all of it.

Your pet must be leashed at all times when in common areas. This applies to all pets, regardless of their recall ability.

Pets may not be left alone in your room when you are not on the property. No begging! Your fuzzy friend is not allowed in the kitchen.

Pets must use designated areas for doing their “business”. We’ll point these out to you when you check-in.

Finally, our insurance does not allow us to host dogs of the following breeds: Pit Bulls and Staffordshire Terriers, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Chows, or any mix of these breeds.

Accidents happen, we get it. But in the event that your pet uses the furniture or causes damage to the property, you will be charged a minimum fifty dollar ($50) fee for remediation.

*Exceptions for service animals will be made to these policies in accordance with the American Disability Act Service Animal guidelines, and will be evaluated on a case-by- case basis. Please reach out if you have questions.
